Optimove: four CRM shifts that keep showing up in 2026 (incrementality, zero-party data, 3-second hooks, loyalty behaviour)
A credited summary of Optimove’s CRM trends write-up. The useful framing is the same pressure triangle most app teams feel: more financial scrutiny, weaker tracking signals, and less attention per message.
Optimove’s post is written for CRM teams, but it maps cleanly onto app growth reality: retention messaging is now held to finance-grade scrutiny, while measurement keeps getting noisier.

The four shifts (in plain language)
-
Incrementality becomes the credibility layer Opens and CTR are not budget-defence metrics. Control groups and incremental lift are.
-
Data capture needs to be a journey, not a form If you need preference data (and you do), you have to earn it with a value exchange. Think quizzes, preference centres, micro-moments, and “tell us what you like” flows that actually pay off.
-
You have ~3 seconds to earn attention Push and email copy can’t “warm up” anymore. Your first line has to land relevance immediately (behaviour, context, preference, or urgency).
-
Loyalty membership != loyalty behaviour A points program that doesn’t change choices when a cheaper alternative appears is a cost centre. Loyalty needs to alter experience, not just tally rewards.
What’s useful for app teams
- Treat lifecycle as product, not comms. The “journey not a form” point is basically onboarding with consent and value exchange.
- Make one metric finance can’t ignore. Incremental retained revenue beats “push sends”.
- Design loyalty around behaviour change. If “VIP” doesn’t change paywalls, offers, or UX, it’s decorative.
Tiny win (30 minutes)
Pick one lifecycle campaign you run every week.
- Define a simple holdout (even 5%).
- Write down one sentence: “Success means X incremental retained revenue (or X incremental reactivations), not opens.”
That alone improves how teams argue about retention.
