App Store Marketing Weekly – Week 34 (2026)

This week’s theme: growth is turning into a ‘signal + guidance’ discipline. If your measurement layer is messy, AI will scale the wrong truth. If your onboarding is generic, retention will keep leaking.

Summary

This week’s theme: growth is becoming a signal-and-guidance job.

AI makes production cheaper (creative, copy, even campaign setup), but it also makes weak measurement more dangerous. At the same time, retention work is drifting upstream: the easiest way to “win back” users is not to lose them in the first two minutes.

Why this matters

  1. AI optimizes toward whatever data you feed it If your event taxonomy is inconsistent (or your web-to-app journey is split across tools), you are about to automate bad decisions.

  2. Onboarding is the cheapest retention lever A generic tour and a “rate us” modal don’t count as onboarding. In 2026, mobile users treat interruptions as disrespect.

  3. Web-to-app is creeping into the top tier of efficiency More teams are discovering that “web first, app second” can be a clean funnel, but only if the handoff is measured properly.

What to do this week (tiny wins)

  1. Pick one metric you will not let AI touch yet Name the one number you need to keep human-audited (for example: paid iOS ROAS, CAC payback, Day-7 retention). Then write down the failure modes (event breaks, attribution skew, organic cannibalization).

  2. Replace one generic onboarding step with a behavioral trigger One rule, one guide, one success metric. If you can’t measure the trigger, the onboarding step is just decoration.

  3. Add one web-to-app “handoff check” Do you know how many people land on web, then end up in-app within 24 hours? If not, you don’t have a funnel, you have vibes.
